Dates: | 21 - 22 November 2008 |
Location: | Liverpool |
As part of the City of Culture year, the Institute of Physics is organising a major event in Liverpool on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 November. “Frontiers of Physics 2008” will consist of two half day sessions, targeted at different audiences and held in different venues, but with the same panel of eminent speakers. The aim in both cases is to present a picture of the forefront of research in different fields of physics, covering the latest developments in the field, and anticipating future breakthroughs.
On the afternoon of Friday 21 November, the venue will be the University of Liverpool, and the target audience will be practising physicists, researchers and university students drawn from across the north of England. We envisage a series of four lectures during the course of the afternoon.
On the morning of Saturday 22 November, the venue will be the BT Conference Centre on the waterfront in Liverpool, and the target audience will be members of the general public with an interest in physics such as IOP members with a physics training who no longer practise in the field, physics teachers, or senior school students. The format will again be four (shorter) lectures, followed by a “question time” session with the panel of speakers.
Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, who will become IOP President in October, will chair both sessions.
The speakers are confirmed as follows-
The event is complimentary and is open to all. To reserve your place, please complete the on-line registration form; it is regretted that we cannot accept bookings made over the telephone.
